Tigers 8, Yankees 3. The Tigers win the series 3-1 and go on to the ACLS.
Though I’ve never been a Yankee hater, and in fact have a slight fondness for them, I hated them this week. Almost everyone picked the Yankees, and in fact, most thought they’d go all the way to the World Series and win easily. This in spite of the fact that the Tigers, after 13 consecutive, sadsack losing seasons, became the drama team this year, and kept up the best record in the league until about three-quarters of the way into the season. They faltered at the end of the season, however, putting them in the wildcard spot. The current Yankee team, one of the best offensive teams ever, got shut down cold. In fact, 23-year-old Jeremy Bonderman had a perfect game through the first five innings today.
I pulled for the SOX two years ago and pulled for the Yankees last year against Anaheim (I will never root for a team from Anaheim??, and besides, I haven’t liked the Angels since the Nolan Ryan and Frank Tanana days). But I am going to enjoy joining the NY Yankee Hate Club for the short term. When the Tigers win the series, I’ll get over it.6:55 pm on October 7, 2006 Email Karen De Coster
