The Rotten Post Office

Years go by and my local post office still seems cavernous. The temperature is never right; it is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. A slight echo and the stench of stato-bureaucratic management welcomes each and every “customer.” Let’s not even mention the long lines and the generic customer service.

Thankfully, one can go to other places, such as private mailing businesses that have contracts with the post office. You can mail and receive packages and buy stamps there, too. And since those establishments are run by people who are likely to respond to market signals (that is, they don’t enjoy a monopoly on moving paper across the country), chances are you will be treated better.
