Fred ‘Flintstone’ Barnes Finally Sees The Writing on the Wall of the Cave

Bill, even Fred Barnes sees a “lurch to the left” coming, but don’t expect him to blame himself or his neocon pals for paving the way.

Gee, he weeps, all these left-wingers will come to power — but he wastes not a word on who it was that put them there: it’s Fawning Fred and his “Big-Government Conservatism” allies who gave “The Cheney” to the Constitution and wallowed happily in the Hot Tub, instead of draining it.

Defenders of liberty have our work cut out for us. But beware, Fred and Friends will want to lend a hand. After all, they will tell us, they have a network, fat foundation funding, and “important people” who can help us. For the disaster they wrought, they will never blame themselves. We must therefore constantly bear in mind the observation of Eric Voegelin, a warning that has been true since time immemorial:

“Socrates understood (what modern political reformers and revolutionaries seem unable to understand) that a reform cannot be achieved by a well-intentioned leader who recruits his followers from the very people whose moral confusion is the cause of the disorder.” [Eric Voegelin, Plato and Aristotle (Order And History, Vol III), P. 5.]
