Fr. Joseph Ganssle, R.I.P.

Fr. Joe Ganssle, Franciscan friar and champion of liberty has died. He was 76.

Fr. Joe had battled cancer for quite some time. He was close friends with Michael Corbin who died two weeks ago, (See “Michael Corbin, R.I.P.“) and when I met him, he was an educator who ran a small Catholic school, and was an important benefactor for Michael and his investigative work.

Fr. Joe also was apparently important to the cause of liberty in decades past. I’m told he was a contributor to various pro-liberty publications, was generally an erudite presence within the movement, and was a friend of Neil McCaffrey.

I mostly knew him as simply a wise priest who administered the sacraments for the local “Latin Mass Community” run by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter. Fortunately, he lived to see Summorum Pontificum
