I used to work in the PTSD department at the VA. The Fort Hood shooter’s background is quite common from what I saw while working there. Many vets who are diagnosed with PTSD or anxiety are almost always unemployed, take psych drugs, and live off of taxpayer supported disablity money even though they never saw combat. Despite the endless therapy appointments and psych prescriptions, they never get better.
