Forbidden Things in Forbidden Places

This Wednesday I’ll be speaking on state nullification as a Jeffersonian remedy at the Mississippi College School of Law, and on January 26 I’ll be speaking on the themes of my forthcoming book, Rollback (which Lew has generously promoted), at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The law school event is a pleasant surprise, since lawyers and law professors tend to be the hardest sell on the idea of state nullification: they teach or have been taught the nationalist version of U.S. history, and what’s more they find it difficult to imagine a political arrangement in which a dispute is not referred to a court. As for UW-Madison, I’m told this is an unlikely city for political reasons. But one of my best events ever occurred at the University of Colorado at Boulder, of all places. People of all political stripes came, and I was given a fair hearing. So I look forward to both of these.
