They used to be called Lazy Cakes and now they are called Lazy Larry, but the government still considers them to be “unsafe” because the brownie product contains melatonin. The company considers its product to be an “edible relaxation product,” but the FDA is fear mongering over potential overdoses of melatonin. Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, the Senate Majority Whip, has pressured the FDA commissioner, via his oh-so-predictable pleas, to protect the children and pregnant women. Note: ordinary women are never an endangered species – only pregnant women are, and that’s because it’s “for the children.” Even a toxicologist weighed in, telling NPR that people need to be protected from themselves.

In the meantime, Big Pharma enjoys lucrative corporate state profits from its campaign to keep “market share” swelling, and that includes its market share for people who ‘can’t sleep’ without one of those legal drug concoctions. As comedian Chris Rock once said:

Are you sad, are you lonely, are you hot, are you cold? You gotta take this pill! And they don’t even tell you what the pill does… they just keep naming symptoms. I saw a commercial the other day that said, “Do you go to bed at night and wake up in the morning?” I got that! I’m sick, I need that pill!”
