Evangelicals are generally not too fond of Mormons and Catholics. Yet, after complaining for years about the loss of evangelical influence in the government, the rise of the influence of Catholics and other religions in government, and the need to elect evangelical Protestants like themselves to office, they are generally supporting Romney (Mormon), Gingrich (Catholic), or Santorum (Catholic) instead of the only evangelical Protestant in the race (Ron Paul). Why? Because the war message of Romney, Gingrich, and Santorum trumps the faith that they say is the most important thing to them.
But let me, an evangelical, a Protestant, and a theological conservative be clear. I am not opposed to electing anyone because of their religion, as I made plain here.
