Environmentalists in Wonderland

Lest anyone think that the environmental movement is about cleaning and sustaining the earth’s environment, the latest edicts from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is a reminder that environmentalism about about empowering the state. The EPA has been fining oil refiners because they have not been putting cellulosic ethanol into gasoline; the problem is that this fuel does not exist.

That’s right. The EPA is demanding that refiners use non-existent fuels because the law claims that they are supposed to be in commercial service now. That the fuel is not there to use is irrelevant.

This is not “stupid government” or something like that. It is tyranny, and when the government has the power to punish someone because they cannot perform a certain “public duty,” then there are no restraints at all upon the reach of the state. Not surprisingly, Progressives have purposely ignored this state of affairs because to admit that the EPA is engaging in tyrannical activity would be to mess up the Holy Narratives about environmental regulation.
