Elliot and Rudy: separated at birth?

Joshua Frank exposes how New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, who is beloved by the left for his “crackdown on corporate crime,” was an architect of New York’s draconian “mini-PATRIOT Act.” Spitzer’s combination of hostility to business and support of taking away liberty in the name of security resemble the similar views (and career path) of his fellow New Yorker Rudy Giuliani. Remember Rudy first came to national prominence prosecuting economic crimes against the state before he set about violating all of our liberties.

Spitzer’s cult status among the left shows that most Democrats are only “civil libertarians” when the state is going after one of their own. When the victim of an overzealous prosecutor is considered “right-wing,” such as a businessman, a Christian, or a lacrosse player, they are more than happy to cheer on a Spitzer, Giuliani, or Nifong. Not that the official right is any better in its’ selective concern opposition to the police state…when was the last time a conservative objected to an attack on liberty, including economic liberty, done in the name of the “war on drugs?”
