As any Western film enthusiast knows, The Magnificent Seven and A Fistful of Dollars were both based on samurai movies by Akira Kurosawa. (i.e., The Seven Samurai and Yojimbo, respectively.)
Now, 1992’s Western Unforgiven has been made into a samurai film by director Lee Sang-Il. Although I do not understand Japanese (alas!) the visuals of the film certainly look faithful to the original, as does the title: Yurusarezaru Mono (A Thing That Can’t Be Forgiven)
For a moderately lengthy discussion of libertarian themes in Unforgiven, see my book Commie Cowboys.
