The devastation wrought by the earthquake in Haiti should provide the statists with an opportunity for enhanced fear-mongering. Perhaps we shall soon hear that this forceful event was caused by “climate change,” or that it was the product of another alleged conspiracy by “terrorists.” The political establishment may draw inspiration from the old James Coburn movie, Our Man Flint, in which a terrorist cabal tried to take control over the world by manipulating geologic and climatological forces to their ends.
