Dispatches from Orwell’s America

Eleven members of a Christian group spent a night in a Philadelphia jail and are being charged with “criminal conspiracy, possession of instruments of crime, reckless endangerment of another person, ethnic intimidation, riot, failure to disperse, (and) disorderly conduct and obstructing highways,” for the crime of going to a homosexual rally and….peacefully displaying banners and quoting the Bible.

As Doug Newman points out the relative silence of the “Christian right” about the outlawing of quoting the Bible is deafening.

Dispatches from Orwell’s America

A friend who lives on Capitol Hill writes regarding DC’s new police state:

” As a local resident, I can’t go to the gym or buy groceries or get to most of my friends’ homes without going through a checkpoint or going very far out of my way through an alternate route.”

Another friend informs that you cannot attend one of President Bush’s campaign events without first giving “security” your name, address, and social security number!

Finally, the right to be secure in homes and to keep and bear arms continues to be ignored by our “public servants”.

Remember they hate us because we are free.
