Bernanke is speculating with America’s future. He is placing enormous bets. If he’s wrong, he won’t lose a dime. He’ll say that he weighed all the pros and cons and made a rational decision according to the directive given to him by Congress. He just “took orders.”
What gives him, really Congress, the right to do such massive speculation on behalf of us is beyond me. I don’t know why Americans have concentrated such power into Congress and let this happen. I personally think it’s incredibly stupid.
Did Bernanke ever speculate personally and make money? Did he ever gamble as he’s doing now? I don’t think so, but even if he had been successful, he still wouldn’t have a right to gamble with the financial structure and economy as he is now doing.
