It’s not the power of prayer, but the “hard power” of the United States military that freed Ingrid Betancour from the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionaras Colombianas (FARC), grouses Charles Krauthammer.
Apparently, Ingrid just doesn’t have her priorities straight. “Upon her liberation, Betancourt offered profuse thanks to God and the Virgin Mary, to her supporters and the media, to France and Colombia and just about everybody else. As of this writing, none to the United States.”
Hmmm. How often do we see Dr. K bow in the direction of “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God” that, according to the Founding Fathers, made the United States possible in the first place?
Alas, Krauthammer’s favorite “hard power” exercise hasn’t been so benevolent to the Iraqis. Maybe they just haven’t thanked the U.S. government enough. Or maybe they just haven’t been praying “to God and the Blessed Virgin Mary.”8:22 am on July 11, 2008 Email Christopher Manion
