This 1996 Australian documentary, Dealing With the Demon, on the intersection of the global narcotics trade with various governments is still very timely. This is a crucial subject that I have repeatedly focused upon at LRC. After viewing it readers should consult two key books which provide an excellent background introduction to this topic. They are Alfred W. McCoy, The Politics of Heroin: CIA Complicity in the Global Drug Trade; and Peter Dale Scott, American War Machine: Deep Politics, the CIA Global Drug Connection, and the Road to Afghanistan.
