Cops Detain Man for Breaking Law — Which Was Repealed in 2003

It shouldn’t be news to anyone that police officers don’t know much about the law, and being ignorant of the law, Colorado Springs officers recently detained a man for carrying a gun in a city park. Police officers carry “cheat sheets” to tell them what the law is since they can’t be bothered to read books and such, and it turns out that the cheat sheet hadn’t been updated since 2003 when state law rendered null and local restrictions on gun possession.

There’s a video of the incident which records the police repeatedly telling their victim that “ignorance of the law is no excuse.”

NB: After the Aurora movie massacre, there was an article circulating in libertarian circles which claimed that it is illegal to carry a gun in Aurora, Colorado. That is not accurate. Aurora’s gun restrictions were rendered unenforceable by state law in 2003. Colorado is a “shall-issue” concealed-carry permit state.
