The FDA knew about, but did not investigate, a rotten peanut shipment just weeks before the first peanut-linked Salmonella case. Because it was an international shipment, we can now see that the FDA’s counterpart in Canada fell down on the job, as well.
But, don’t worry, ’cause Congress is looking into all of this and some are determined to overhaul the FDA. Too bad that an overhaul won’t actually accomplish anything or lead to actual improvements in food safety – but it sure does sound good!
