Conservatives will regret helping to build a police state

When a future Kerry or Stalin-Clinton Administration turns the PATRIOT Act on the right. The Senate’s passage of Ted Kennedy’s “hate crimes” bill should give all of Ashcroft’s cheerleaders on the right pause.

Even if the hate crimes bill does not become law, the modern judicial fad of “interpreting” the constitution according to legal norms fashionable in Europe could give America’s censors the same power they have in France where not even aging sex kittens are safe from the thought police.
