Confiscation of Private Firearms in New Orleans

The act of confiscating the firearms from people in New Orleans is much more sinister than one might think at first glance. While being touted as a “public safety” measure, it really is being done to make sure that law-abiding people are left defenseless against criminals. Once people are not able to protect themselves from the marauding criminal gangs, they have much less incentive to stay put in their homes.

On the other hand, the criminals are NOT going to turn in their guns. Furthermore, I suspect that police would not go out of their way to protect these newly-disarmed citizens, so they know the handwriting is on the wall.I believe this event is going to be much more important in the history of freedom — or loss of freedom — in this country. Americans had their liberties curtailed after 9/11, and now we see that the government is using a storm and its own bungling in order to be able to grab more power.

For people who live in the stricken areas, right now they might be glad to see FEMA and the money and provisions they (sometimes) hand out. However, as time goes on, FEMA will become increasingly dictatorial as these people try to rebuild their lives.
