Come on, California Politicians!

Writes Bob New:

As a native-born Californian I am embarrassed and in fact humiliated by the fact that our governor feels compelled to go to the FEDs and get his hand into the bailout fiasco to offset the expected $28bn state deficit. How our political big spenders got us in this mess is hard to understand. Any businessman, householder, or rational thinking person knows that if your debt is increasing beyond your income all you have to do to stave off bankruptcy is cut back on spending. Apparently this is not clearly understood by those in charge of our state’s fiscal policy. We are obviously in a serious financial mess. Here are some suggestions on how to turn this folly around.

As a heroic gesture and a real sign of patriotic leadership our elected officials should step forward and voluntarily offer to take a temporary 10% cut in pay. This goes for state, county and city elected officials. This should quickly be followed by a 10% cut in pay for all appointees, managers etc., who are presently paid over $100k annually. Further reduction in unnecessary expense can be accomplished by a serious review of all of our state give away such as the multigenerational welfare payments. This is just for starters but would clearly indicate to the voters that our elected officials are willing to do something besides just talk.
