Back in 2009, I wrote an open letter titled “Letter to a Christian Young Man Regarding Joining the Military.” At the end I stated:
If any readers are veterans, consider themselves to be Christians, agree with the sentiments expressed in this letter, and would be willing to let me append their name, branch, and rank to any future use of this letter, please contact me. The fact that you “served” and I didn’t might be what is needed to help persuade some young man (or woman) to not join the military.
Since then, many Christian veterans have written me. I have listed them, at their request, by name, branch, and rank to this copy of the letter. I mention this now because another just wrote me today and I added his name. If you are a Christian veteran, take a look at the letter. If you agree with it, then consider requesting that I add your name. If you don’t agree with it, then thank you for reading LewRockwell.com. Please keep reading.
By the way, the most recent name I added (Keith Billman) was no dumb soldier. “Awards: Good Conduct Medal w/star, Navy Achievement Medal (during Desert Storm), Kuwait Liberation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation w/star, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon w/star, Southwest Asia medal w/2 stars, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal (Liberia), Certificate of Commendation, Letter of Commendation, Certificate of Achievement, Letter of Appreciation x 2, Meritorious Mast.” Since I never “served,” I don’t know what all this means, but I am sure you military guys do.
