Chris Matthews, Mubarackian

How sickening to see Mathews tonight openly calling for the Egyptian army to crush the dissenters. If crowds of freedom-seekers rallied in DC, I have no doubt that he would be cheering on the Pentagon, too. Must have “stability,” you know. BTW, what all the neocons are ignoring: the Egyptian army is a slave force, conscripted from the poor. Only the politically connected, well-to-do officer corps is voluntary, and it may have good reason fear the soldiers.

UPDATE from Kevin Kelly:

Chris Mathews’s response is honestly not too surprising. Ever since the General Electric media also known as MSNBC sold the American public the war in Iraq they have been so eager to be an arm of the military industrial complex and the state. Whenever I see our “independent media” selling propaganda I am reminded of Murray Rothbard’s quote on the media government relationship:

“All States are governed by a ruling class that is a minority of the population, and which subsists as a parasitic and exploitative burden upon the rest of society. Since its rule is exploitative and parasitic, the State must purchase the alliance of a group of “Court Intellectuals,” whose task is to bamboozle the public into accepting and celebrating the rule of its particular State. The Court Intellectuals have their work cut out for them. In exchange for their continuing work of apologetics and bamboozlement, the Court Intellectuals win their place as junior partners in the power, prestige, and loot extracted by the State apparatus from the deluded public.”
