In defending its centralized political control of all of China, the Chinese government has invoked the Lincoln myth in hopes of persuading Obama to shun the Dalai Lama, who the Chinese call a “splittist” or secessionist.  They say Obama should shun the Dalai Lama in the name of Chinese “national unity,” just as Abe Lincoln championed “national unity”  (by micromanaging the mass murder of some 350,000 opponents of such “unity”).
