Obama is meeting with the “leader” of China today. We are hearing much in the media about Chinese cyber hacking of U.S. government and military computer systems. Four observations. 1. Is not this what the NSA does to Americans? 2. The U.S. government is so untrustworthy that anything it says about China or any other country doing something wrong cannot be believed without independent evidence. 3. If China is in fact hacking U.S. government and military computer systems, then why is it that the U.S. government, with the greatest resources on the planet, cannot secure its own computer systems? 4. Why is it that if the U.S. government hacks Chinese computers, then it is seen as good because it is in the interest of American national security, but if the Chinese government hacks U.S. computers in the interest of Chinese national security, then it is seen as bad. But, it is said, the Chinese government is lying. I agree. But the American government is doing what it does best–lying.
Update: I was just pointed to this: “Obama orders US to draw up overseas target list for cyber-attacks.”
