Changing Threats to Privacy From TIA to Google

Here’s a very interesting 1 hour talk on “Changing Threats to Privacy from TIA to Google.” TIA means Total Information Awareness. (Thanks to John Spiers for alerting me to that term.)

Google uses its dominant position to create tie-ins by which, in order to participate in what are now almost socially necessary activities, one has to reveal information to Google. Eavesdroppers, including government, can access this information. Google can misuse or reveal this information. The CEO of Google says things that show the danger, such as “If you have something that you don’t want anyone to know maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place.” He is plainly wrong! There are many actions and statements that are both moral and legal that one does not want everyone to know.
