When I was a young kid, November 11th was celebrated as “Armistice Day” which, I was told, was in celebration if not of peace, at least the end of World War I. Ninety years later, Pres. George W. Babble is on all the cable news channels intoning the importance and virtues of the massive slaughter that only warfare can produce. We are told that the president is the recipient of the “2008 Intrepid Freedom Award.” This must be in recognition of all the “freedom” veterans like to delude themselves into believing they fought for!
I think I will celebrate the day by watching my favorite anti-war film, “The Americanization of Emily.”
