Case in Point – Food Safety

The FDA does not hold protecting consumers as its highest priority, and, even if it did, government bureaucracies are reactionary, so competent protection is impossible. After the spinach scare last year, the FDA will now allow producers to use x-rays to help decontaminate leafy greens. This technology is old, and, although it may not be effective, the fact that producers have been banned from using this method is ludicrous. Furthermore, this report goes on to say

The FDA still is considering industry’s petition to allow irradiation of additional produce.
