Pat Buchanan observes that, following Hamiltonian thinking, “we were the awe and envy of mankind.” The rest of the world has since moved from an “awe and envy” respect to a state of “shock and awe” fear. I wonder if Pat sees any connection between Hamilton’s centralized state and the modern fear and contempt with which America is increasingly seen by others?
