Campaign Reform=less choices, more government

At least according to Representative David Obey, the lead sponsor of the “Let the People Decide Clean Campaign Act,” which would create a system of welfare for all candidates for federal office and ban all private campaign contributions. Of course only “serious” candidates and parities would qualify for federal funding, but the ban on private contributions would apply to all parties. Third parties could not even use private funds to surmount restrictive state ballot access laws! Thus, this bill will put the LP, Greens, Reform, etc. out of businesses, while protecting the political establishment from a future Ross Perot.

Those whose disgust with the current administration’s polices have lead them to look favorably on the Democrats should consider that this assault on the First Amendment is an initiative of the party of Wilson and FDR.
