Bush-League Thinking

“Bush says sacrificed free-market principles to save economy.”

These were the words that appeared on an Internet news site. They recalled the equally self-contradictory and absurd line from the Vietnam War: “we must destroy the village in order to save it.” I was also reminded of the ancient practice of the burning of “witches” being rationalized as a means to “save the souls” of the possessed.

By at least their teen-aged years, every child ought to have read George Orwell’s “Animal Farm,” with particular attention paid to how the corruption of society begins with the corruption of language.
