Bush and our “goals”

This morning after dropping off my children at school, I was listening to the news, and I heard some of Bush’s speech at the UN. He spoke of the “goals of the United States,” as though a country has “goals.” Included in the litany of “goals” was “freedom,” yet we clearly are becoming less free at home.

Because I don’t have a TV with cable reception (which means no reception at all where I live), and because I cannot listen to Bush speaking for any longer that five seconds, I generally do not hear what he has to say. (It is bad enough reading his words, and especially if one provides a literal transcript.)

Of course, this whole “goals” business is utterly bogus, and anyone who believes that the behemoth known as the federal government (or “gumint,” as Charles Featherstone calls it) spreads freedom is sadly mistaken.
