Bureaucrats Line the Mall

To cheer billions in 1940s tech attached to a piece of 1960s tech—on their way to a federal museum. What a thrill.

UPDATE from Mike Richman:

I love your characterization of the shuttle flight. I’m a graduate student in physics just inside the beltway, and as the abomination flew by, my fellow students were moving about the building trying to catch a glimpse. I was thoroughly uninterested.

The whole thing reminds me of two things: the brilliant depiction of State inefficiency in the movie “Brazil,” and that internet meme, “Rule 34: No Exceptions.”

P.S. I read every post on your site. It helps keep me slightly more sane in an insane world.
