When I was a child, I was a big fan of the CBS Radio Mystery Theater. I discovered it the summer I turned 10 in 1977, and was an avid listener until sometime in 1981. After that, I started high school and got too busy.
It’s one of the few childhood pleasures that has survived well, and I have recently acquired the entire eight-year series on DVD. Jennifer and I have started with December 1976, right after the presidential election. Most of the shows are edited, but a few have news clips and commercials. Several talked about President-elect Carter’s economic stimulus plan, needed to revive the flagging U.S. economy.
Hmmm. I wonder how that turned out…
