Antiwar Candidate Wins Montana GOP Senate Primary

Attorney Bob Kelleher defeated five others to win the Republican primary for US Senator from Montana. The 85-year-old Kelleher is a vocal opponent of the US occupation of Iraq. Kelleher is a former leader of the Montana Green Party, which is no longer qualified for that state’s ballot. He continues to hold the same “green” beliefs.

Among the candidates Kelleher defeated were the former Republican Majority leader of the state legislature and a wealthy Republican businessman. Kelleher spent less than $5000 in the race. He will face incumbent Democrat Max Baucus in November.
