Today on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, during a pause in the 4th day of the Tim Russert obsequies, Jim Cramer was spouting his message of hate: “energy independence.” He wants to prevent US businesses and consumers from buying oil from people he says he “hates,” which includes not only Arabs (of course) but Muslim Nigerians too.
How is that no one questions the constant calls for energy autarky of the most primitive sort? If some paleocon wants to hinder trade with Mexicans, he is denounced as a bigot. If some neocon wants to hinder trade with Muslims, and wants to murder them too, he is a defender of national security.
Of course, there should be massive drilling on “federal” lands and coasts; of course, taxes and regulations should be eliminated on oil production and refining; but hindering international trade, even with people the neocons hate, can only make us and the world poorer. It is also immoral, of course.
Need I mention that the inflationist Cramer did not mention the role of dollar deprecation by his pals at the Fed in the rise of the oil price?
