Anti-International Market Laws

The USDA is about to start enforcing country-of-origin labeling. As you can see in this FAQ, the rules are arbitrary and will encourage the public to think it is being protected by the state. For example, this article starts by saying:

It’s a law years in the making but timely, as China’s milk scandal and the recent salmonella-tainted Mexican peppers prompt growing concern over the safety of imported foods.

But as far as I can tell, milk will not be labeled, and anything made with milk (like baby formula or chocolate bars) will certainly not be labeled since it only applies to unmixed, raw foods.

And, Obama wants to make sure that the US can’t export mercury. But, Obama has a brilliant economic mind, so this surely won’t have any negative economic consequences…
