I thoroughly enjoyed For Greater Glory last night, a movie based on the true story of how the Mexican government in the 1920s banned religion (Catholicism in particular), and how a citizen revolt, led by a retired general, successfully fought it. Government goons are portrayed as they were (and are): power hungry, bloodthirsty monsters so paranoid about losing their power to loot the public that they would murder priests in public. Lots of shooting and killing, even a few Clint Eastwood-esque scenes. The thought entered my mind that if Murray Rothbard was sitting next to me his laughter and cheering every time a uniformed bureaucrat bit the dust would have been deafening.
