Another Reason To End the Drug War

In Kansas, the city of Topeka recently had a dispute with Shawnee County over which arm of government should pay for prosecuting domestic violence crimes. Topeka went so far as to decriminalize domestic violence in order to force the county to fund the prosecutions.

If law enforcement budgets are tight, then quit prosecuting victimless crimes like drug use. This is the only sensible thing to do. Why threaten to not prosecute real crimes and then continue to expend resources prosecuting people who commit no real crime at all? Our justice system is sick. See the numerous articles by Bill Anderson for examples.

This is not to say that all domestic violence charges are legitimate. See, for example, here.
