Sam Shariat, an American resident, returned from Iran via Turkey with some substances that he should have been able to purchase in the United States, if we had a free society. Shariat’s luggage contained a jar of opium and more than 1,900 methadone, alprazolam, and Valium pills. He was arrested for the non-crime of drug smuggling.
