Having taken his act on the road to test its marketability, Fred Thompson used Hollywood’s “Jay Leno” show – perhaps the pinnacle of the
entertainment world – to announce his campaign to audition for the role of “President.” Having passed his screen-tests, memorized the script provided him by the establishment producers, and – like Ronald Reagan – learned to deliver his lines with all the proper inflections of sincere resolve, he now regards himself fit to go to center stage and pretend to be someone he is not. Does the only genuine GOP candidate – kept backstage and out of the public eye by the show’s producers – have a chance against this professional poser? We’ll have to wait a few more months until the ratings are announced.
