I appreciate Mr. Sullivan‘s desire to distinguish the religious right from historic Christianity. So, in imitation of the term “Islamists,” he calls such advocates of war, imperialism, and hate “Christianists.”

Still, since it is precisely Jesus who blesses the peacemakers, and tells us to turn the other cheek, to love our enemies, and to put up the sword, I’d prefer another word.

Any suggestions?
