Analysis of the Straw Poll

Factoring in all the major indicia of strength, to use Romney’s favorite word–“scientific” polls, unscientific polls, money, media coverage, number of activists and their commitment, performance in debates, etc.–there is a five-way race for the nomination among Fred Thompson, Rudy, Romney, McCain and Ron Paul. All the rest are vanity candidates, sorry boys.

Yesterday, Ron Paul came in second out of the five. He quadrupled his “scientific” poll numbers–how scientific are they anyway?

Now, the man who finished first, Romney, spent vastly greater resources in that effort and started his campaign in Iowa well before Ron did. Romney only modestly exceeded his poll numbers in Iowa.

Frankly, I think this race is between Ron Paul and Fred “Hamlet” Thompson, so Romney’s “win” doesn’t concern me in the slightest. What does concern me is his obsession with the word “strength,” which conjures up another word: scary!

So, take it, not from the mainstream media, but from one whose analysis all along has been pretty darn good both this year and in 2004.

The Revolution continues!
