A Snotty, Snearing Beltwaytarian

In 2007–2008 some of the higher ups at the Cato Institute helped orchestrate a vicious smear campaign against Ron Paul and his supporters. Unlike them, Ron never supported the “PATRIOT Act” and the occupation of Afghanistan. He wants to abolish the Fed; they pretend to be interested in “improving” the Fed. They want to “work with” the Washington establishment; Ron wants to abolish as much of that establishment as possible. He is a traditional, live-and-let-live libertarian on social issues. Unlike the Catoites, he is not a libertine, and he sees no need to champion the causes of taking drugs, sleeping around, prostitution, etc., etc.; he simply thinks government should leave people alone who do such things. This enrages the Catoites. Cato’s grand poobah, Ed Crane, even walked out of his own board meeting recently in protest of two “social conservatives” that were placed on his board.

Now along comes the pathetic and insufferably smarmy David Boaz, vice grand poobah of Cato, to tell Nationalized Public Radio that Senator Rand Paul “has softer edges than his dad,” which “helped get him elected to the Senate.” Of course, Ron Paul is many orders of magnitude more influential than his son, despite his “hard edges.” And he has been elected seventeen times, Boaz. It should also be pointed out that Ron Paul has been infinitely more successful in advancing the ideas of freedom than the Cato Institute has been, which is what really enrages the beltwaytarians.
