A Long Train of Abuses

I am against violent revolutions, mainly because they do not work toward liberty as far as I can tell. The three main examples are the American Revolution, the French Revolution and the Russian Revolution. There are others. Aroused passions are not necessarily the father of wise political outcomes.

But I have to admit that when I read this article by Jonathan Turley, on the Supreme Court’s  5th Amendment decision, the phrase “a long train of abuses” popped into my mind. It is as if the Supreme Court, even though the decision was close (5-4), is challenging Americans to come at them with picks, shovels, shotguns, revolvers, knives, AR-15s and AK-47s. They seem to be bruising for a fight, asking to be tarred and feathered. The Court is joining Congress and the Executive in asking for it. If passions ever do get aroused on a widespread basis, Washington may once again be burned to the ground. Fire is a terrible weapon. Building another State on the ashes of an old one is the usual outcome, and not one that is at all progressive. I am against violent revolutions, but these idiots seem intent on stoking one.
