A Great People

The Chinese, one of the great commercial peoples, have prospered mightily since the boot of Maoism was removed from their throats. This upsets the protectionists, who are also DC supremecists and Chinaphobes. How dare the Chinese not be poor and subservient to DC? How dare they make products other people want to buy, at prices they want to pay? How dare they move from concentration camps and communism to riches and capitalism? I was struck by what Jim Rogers told me, that many peoples have been great once, but only the Chinese have created great civilizations a number of times, and are doing so again. But the protectionists and China haters are dangerous, and not only economically. They helped bring on WWII, and they are promoting war now. “If goods don’t cross borders, armies will”: the Bastiatian slogan is right.
