I have long heeded the advice of Robert Heinlein, when he said: “Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.” With this thought in mind, I refrained from commenting on the highly vocal conversation being conducted — in the grocery-store checkout line — by two denizens from the shallow end of the gene pool. They were ranting about the state of health care in America, and concluded that “we should have government-run health care; just let the government pay for all of this, no questions asked.”
I doubt that any synapse would have been energized in the brains of either of these twits for me to have pointed out that virtually all of the political and social problems we face have been occasioned by this attitude of “no questions asked.”
