The news anchor says, “when he was fighting the Japanese, did he ever think he would live to almost 96 only to be tased, and then shot in the guts from a beanbag round from a shotgun while he was sitting in his chair?”
Police tased this feeble, old man, and when that didn’t work, they came back, breaking through the door of the assisted living facility with riot shields, and blasted him with a beanbag shotgun blast.
Police decided instead to taser the war hero and follow it up with a beanbag to the guts. Officers reported that a knife had been pulled, but no knife was found on the scene. The police used a riot shield, shotgun and taser on a 95-year-old man in a walker who arguably presented no threat to anyone but himself.
According to this article, “the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said Wrana died from internal bleeding from blunt force trauma caused by the bean bag rounds.” This article (pardon the link to the World Socialist Web Site!) seems to give the most details of the incident. Nice quote, however, from the article:
The application of excessive force on an elderly man in a nursing home by a swarm of police, leading to his inevitable death at the hands of law enforcement, is reprehensible. The claim that the use of multiple Tasings and blasts of bean bag rounds was justified in against a 95-year-old man to protect police and nursing home staff against an impending deadly threat, measures applied primarily against conditions of social unrest and riot control, holds no legitimacy.
Thanks to Charles Burris for the link.
