5,983

5,983 soldiers reported being sexually assaulted in the military in 2014. That, of course, doesn’t include the sexual assaults that go unreported. Although men are assaulted (isn’t that a good reason for men to stay out of the military?), most of those assaulted are women. And yet, women continue to join the military and churches continue to send their Christian young women into the military. Fathers, brothers, uncles, and grandfathers–those of you who really know how men are–do what you can to keep the women you know out of the military.

The 5,983 number is higher than last year. However, the DOD is maintains that it is “unlikely” the number is higher because more crimes are taking place. It is just that there is an increase in reporting. The DOD is actually claiming that fewer members of the military are being sexually assaulted because “the number of active-duty women who said they were victims of unwanted sexual contact in the last year was 4.3 percent in 2014 — down from 6.1 percent in 2012.”
