Bipartisan Washington Dodges the Real Question About Terrorism

David, the Obama administration will be no more honest in answering the question, “why do they hate us,” than the Bush Administration was. The question is forbidden in both major parties because of the trouble that an honest answer would undoubtedly cause in certain quarters.

Meanwhile, I’ve been getting a stream of pompous emails (prime example here) from gloating “conservatives” who insist that the country, fed up with Obama, is now turning back to — them! So please send them more money!

In that regard, I turn to a truth as old as the ages, from the late political philosopher (and my teacher) Eric Voegelin: “Socrates understood (what modern political reformers and revolutionaries seem unable to understand) that a reform cannot be achieved by a well-intentioned leader who recruits his followers from the very people whose moral confusion is the cause of the disorder.”

Read it and weep, Beltway “Conservative” Trough-dwellers! As long as Obama’s opposition is today’s GOP, he has nothing to worry about. That cadaver will never be resuscitated until a brave Republican (perhaps a medical doctor? Perhaps from Texas?) will honestly answer the question, “Why was Bush so unpopular with voters in 2006 and 2008?” The mealy mush-mouths we’ve heard so far will never answer the forbidden questions, or even admit that they exist.
